Cydny Consults is creating a safe space for a select group of women to read, analyze and explore bell hooks' transformative work: Sisters of the Yam: Black Women and Self-Recovery.
This Book Discussion registration form is to gain access to our virtual, self-paced platform to analyze the text and have access to be in community with others to reflect on and connect to the text.
If you are new to hooks' work, she was a prolific and profound writer, theorist, and cultural critic. Her work consistently challenged and expanded our understanding of race, class and gender.
Sisters of the Yam is a book that I think is particularly POWERful! It's a roadmap for healing, specifically designed for Black women. hooks doesn't just theorize, she offers practical, tangible ways to confront the pain of systemic oppression and find paths to move forward in self-love and overall wellness.
I hope you can join us on this journey.

Take part in this interactive workshop where Ms. Cydny A. Neville will share her experiences through Fulbright-Hays GPA experiences in East Africa (through Virginia Tech), and South Africa (through University of Pennsylvania) and analyzes the “Familiar Struggles” experienced by Blacks in America, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania. This presentation will allow participants to examine primary resources from her lens and relevant resources to position them to develop lesson plans for K-16 and/or engage in informative discussions about “Familiar Struggles” at the community level.
